The University of Warwick has announced the autumn/winter programme for Resonate – beginning with a reflection on the anniversary of a major piece of British and global history.

Resonate is a year-long programme of inspiring and interactive events that brings to life the work of the University and its staff for people right across Coventry and Warwickshire.

The autumn/winter programme starts with Resonate Lates – Reflections on the 1947 South Asian partition 75 years on, which will take place on Thursday, October 13 at the Coventry Muslim Resource Centre.

It will include talks, poetry and a film screening while scholars from the University of Warwick will offer reflections on the legacies of the partition in the context of their research. Audience members will also be able to comment and interact with speakers and offer their own reflections.

Dr Kerry Baker, Associate Director at the Warwick Institute of Engagement, part of the University of Warwick, said: “We are delighted to announce our autumn/winter programme which includes a diverse mix of events and projects that might tackle serious, internationally-significant historic events or showcase topics and ideas through hands-on, practical activities.

“Working in partnership with teams, organisations and communities on and off campus the WIE Events Team are hosting and supporting a variety of events through to Christmas that will inspire, engage and in some cases boggle the mind. There will be something for everyone to engage with!

“We’re building on the successes and learning of being part of Coventry’s UK City of Culture year and the autumn/winter programme is the start of another 12 months of opportunities for people of all backgrounds and all ages to indulge their sense of curiosity.”

An exhibition titled Constellations of HOME will be running at the University of Warwick Faculty of Arts Building from Monday 3rd – Thursday 27th October. This is a new exhibition created in collaboration with people who have experienced homelessness in Coventry.

A second Resonate Lates event will be taking place Monday, October 24, at Cheylesmore Community Centre. Aimed at an audience of 11 to 16-year-olds, this event will be a fun night of games, challenges and technology that links our hobbies, physical activity and wellbeing.

The Screening Rights Film Festival will run from October 27 to October 30 across multiple locations including Warwick Arts Centre and is the eighth edition of the film festival which focusses on human rights.

Several events as part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science are also included in Resonate and will cover topics from the US mid-term elections to David Bowie, and from the origin of farming to heart health in young people.

The autumn/winter programme will close with the final Resonate Lates event of the year featuring food, drink and festive cheer alongside the science, culture and history around some best-loved dishes.

Dr Baker added: “It is a packed programme between now and the end of the year and we’d urge people from across the region to take a look at what is on offer and participate in Resonate this autumn and winter.”
