Brave bank holiday adventurers are being invited to learn how to train a dragon – amid rumours a smoke-breathing mythical beast has been spotted in the medieval heart of Coventry.

Let There Be Dragons! a new immersive experience featuring the UK’s most realistic smoke-breathing dragon, will arrive at St Mary’s Guildhall on Monday, August 26.

Visitors will learn what it takes to become a dragon tamer on a never-seen-before journey through the guildhall, complete with mythical tales inspired by the historically significant venue, before coming face to face with a full-sized dragon which has taken residence in Coventry.

The interactive adventure, led by the Guildhall’s resident dragon tamer, will see lifelike dragon puppets, the largest with a 4m nose-to-tail span, brought to life by award-winning entertainment company The Experiences Group.

A competition to name the new dragon, seen for the first time in the UK at the event, is also being held with the winner set to be revealed at the end of the day.

The one-hour experience is suitable for all ages, but children must be supervised by an adult.

Sam Beech, managing partner at The Experiences Group, said: “We can’t wait to bring another layer of magic to an already incredible venue this bank holiday Monday, as we combine myths, legends and exciting history in Let There Be Dragons!

“Our expert entertainers and custom-made realistic puppets help to create memorable, hands-on experiences for the whole family, and our new interactive dragon experience, which draws on real history in St Mary’s Guildhall, is made for brave adventurers looking for a fun-packed end to the summer holidays.”

Abi Moore, heritage and venue manager at St Mary’s Guildhall, said: “This is a truly unique event and a great way to experience the guildhall for regular visitors and those that have never visited before.

“The dragons are a fantastic visual spectacle and offer a really exciting, memorable adventure in the last week of the summer holidays. We hope to see lots of budding dragon tamers join us for a day to remember.”
