Dragons, birds of prey and time-travelling Tudors will all head to a family-friendly Coventry attraction this summer as part of its huge programme of school holiday activities.
St Mary’s Guildhall is inviting families to exciting events inspired by the city’s rich past, with plenty to do to keep all ages entertained throughout July and August.
In the heart of Coventry’s historic Cathedral Quarter, visitors can learn what it takes to become a dragon tamer, delve into the fascinating realm of Tudor medicine and food in a medieval kitchen and discover the historical significance of birds of prey as part of a series of immersive history-inspired experiences.
Alongside its “Tudor Tuesdays”, complete with live demonstrations on the secrets of Tudor herbs and the inner workings of Tudor households, the 14th century attraction will host its dragon taming experience on Monday, August 26, featuring an immersive actor-led dragon adventure with lifelike puppets as guests come face-to-face with a full-sized dragon.
There will also be family-friendly dragon-themed history tours available on Thursdays and Saturdays at 11 AM and 2.30pm, dragon-themed crafts and a children's trail to uncover hidden treasures.
Six incredible birds of prey will head to the Great Hall on Friday, August 2, where experts will delve into their historical significance as symbols of power, wealth, and royalty in Tudor England.
Willow weaving workshops will also take place on Sunday, July 21 and Wednesday, August 14, inviting visitors to learn about the historic art and create a handcrafted bird feeder and cornucopia.

“The dragon-taming experience on bank holiday Monday, inspired by the dragon in our famous Coventry tapestry, is sure to be a highlight, but there is a huge variety on offer, ranging from willow-weaving to hands-on activities in the medieval kitchen.
“There is so much history to uncover in the guildhall, and we have partnered with some absolutely brilliant entertainers and experts to combine real history with family-friendly fun to bring it all to life, and we can’t wait to get started.”
