Traffic calming measures installed at a Warwickshire village are already improving road safety.
AC Lloyd Homes has funded the £90,000 project to introduce a speed table to slow down cars entering Bishop’s Tachbrook near its 50-home Mallory Gardens development.
The Warwick-based property company has worked closely with Bishop’s Tachbrook Parish Council and Warwickshire County Council on the scheme which has also led to a reduction in the speed limit from 50mph to 40mph and an extension of the 30mph zone.
And since the measures were introduced, the Bishop’s Tachbrook Community Speed Watch has noticed a major improvement in motorists’ driving.
Leigh Carter, vice-chairman of Bishop’s Tachbrook Parish Council and a member of the Community Speed Watch team, said this was a great example of partnership working.
He said: “It has been a pleasure to work with AC Lloyd once again because we wanted to put in a speed table similar to a previous scheme on the section of the road near their new development as motorists enter the village.
“As a parish council, we wanted to introduce traffic calming measures on each of the three entrances to the village and this is the third part of the trilogy.
“I’m part of the Speed Watch team and once the table was put in, we went along for our usual hourly session to monitor speed and we didn’t record one instance of anyone driving above the speed limit whereas usually we would record between ten and 20 cases of people driving above the speed limit.
“On a daily basis, it is visually noticeable that motorists entering and leaving the village are modifying their speed so it is working like a dream which is all we wanted.”
Cllr Jan Matecki, ward councillor for Budbrooke and Bishop’s Tachbrook at Warwickshire County Council, said: “Reducing the speed of cars as they approach the village makes the whole area a safer place to travel, for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. These excellent results show what can happen when partners – in this case the parish and county councils – work together and combine their knowledge and resources.”
Alistair Clark, managing director at AC Lloyd Homes, added that its development at Mallory Gardens has now been completed.
He said: “Mallory Gardens is the first housing development on entering Bishop’s Tachbrook from Banbury Road and we worked with Bishop’s Tachbrook Parish Council and Warwickshire County Council’s highways department on the traffic calming plans.
“It is clear to see that motorists are taking extra care when driving along this section of road which is great news for the safety of everyone who lives and visits the village.
“As a local developer we are conscious of the disturbance we have created in the village whilst carrying out the development so it is great to have contributed something long-term to enhance the safety of the community.
“I would also like to thank the Parish Council for their support and help during the building works.”
