A pharmaceutical company which helps patients with complex needs access vital treatments that are not widely available is set to relaunch itself into the UK market after a move to Coventry.
Komtur Pharmaceuticals has opened a new office at the Business Innovation Centre in Binley, part of the University of Warwick Science Park, to help improve outcomes for patients with rare diseases or chronic conditions that need treatments that are not easily obtainable through organisations like the NHS.
The firm works with healthcare professionals and drug companies around the world to provide these treatments, and also helps brand-new medicines come to market by supplying similar drugs to manufacturers for comparisons in clinical trials.
In addition, Komtur can help researchers, universities and startups manage the clinical trial process, enabling them to do the research and trials whilst Komtur manages the process.
Now, after its move to the Business Innovation Centre, Komtur is aiming to use the site’s better location and the networking opportunities provided by the Science Park to re-establish itself in the UK market.
John Newbold, UK Manager of Komtur Pharmaceuticals, said: “While the majority of patients are able to access simple medicine, there are still a lot of patients with more complex conditions that struggle to get the treatment they need.
“For example, someone with a rare form of cancer may benefit from drugs that are only available in or outside of Europe. We assist health professionals to find a way to prescribe them.
“We work holistically with all elements of the healthcare supply chain to find a way to make such a treatment easily available to that patient, resulting in positive outcomes for the patient, healthcare provider and pharmaceutical manufacturers alike.
Komtur has offices all over the world, and had a presence in the UK, but needed to find somewhere new if it was going to help more UK patients get the treatments they needed.
John added: “Our old UK office was on a high street in southwest London, and the location just wasn’t right for the growth of the business here.
“We knew we wanted somewhere that had good access to our key customer bases in Oxford, Cambridge and Milton Keynes (the UK Pharma Golden Triangle), and be around companies that were also innovative in their own way.
“When we saw the vacancy at the Business Innovation Centre in Binley, we thought it was an excellent opportunity due to its links to the University of Warwick and its excellent location.
“It was clear early on when we came to view the building that it was going it be a great fit for us.
“The Business Innovation Centre team has helped our team of five feel right at home, and we’re planning on taking advantage of the excellent networking opportunities being a tenant of the University of Warwick Science Park will give us.”
Emma Turner, centre manager at the Business Innovation Centre, added: “We’re really pleased John and the team have settled in so quickly after their move.
“Komtur Pharmaceuticals is yet another superb addition to the wide range of cutting-edge businesses here at the Business Innovation Centre and in the Science Park as a whole, and we look forward to helping them achieve their ambitious goals.”
