The enduring music of popstar Whitney Houston will be brought to life at a greatest hits tribute show in Coventry.
Queen Of The Night – A Tribute to Whitney Houston is a celebration of the life and back-catalogue of one of the most talented singers of all time.
After selling 100,000 tickets last year, packing out Royal Albert Hall and The London Palladium along the way, Queen Of The Night will return in 2025 for a 10th anniversary tour that will stop at Coventry Building Society Arena on Saturday, March 29.
Singer and self-confessed Whitney worshipper Adenike Adewale, a semi-finalist on The Voice UK in 2021, will perform from a remarkable repertoire that includes I Wanna Dance With Somebody, One Moment In Time, I’m Every Woman, I Will Always Love You, Saving All My Love and more.
A shy, quiet child who just loved music, Adenike honed her amazing vocal range in her bedroom listening to powerhouse performers like Whitney before going on to sing in school and university choirs.
Now she’s centre stage in an electrifying production, complete with a full live band and captivating choreography, that is paying the ultimate tribute to the one and only queen of the night.
“My mum was a huge fan, so Whitney Houston was always ringing and singing in our house from an early age,” Adenike said. “That vocal passion she had, the gospel background, it spoke to me.
“Her voice wasn’t just pleasing to the ear, but the passion was something I related to. I aspired to have that range and that freedom of vocal ability – it was so powerful. I wanted to emulate that ability from the timid voice I had. It gave me something to work for.
“The gospel industry in itself was where Whitney started and then went into soul, pop and RnB. Faith played a huge role in her life and stayed prominent in her music. To be able to bless others through song is something I aspire to too.”
Adenike says the experience of performing on The Voice UK gave her the confidence she needed to apply for the lead role on Queen Of The Night.
“I had so much support through that, and I realised it (singing) was what I really wanted to do,” she added. “So when Queen Of The Night – A Tribute to Whitney Houston came up, I grabbed the chance.
“Queen Of The Night very much has an interactive feel. I love that it’s one of those shows where the audience feels very much part of it.
“The band plays a huge role. We have guitar, bass, saxophone, percussion, drummer and piano, two backing dancers and singers who are constantly on stage and a featured vocalist too.
“It’s great to have a musical family like we do and being able to take audiences on the journey – it’s magical.”
