Last chance to catch summer entertainment at Coventry's Assembly Festival Garden

August is an exciting month at Coventry’s Assembly Festival Garden with plenty to see and take part in for the whole family.

From 13 August until 29 August, Havana Rumba will parade into the Assembly Festival Garden, telling the story of the music of Cuba from thrilling rhythms of African ancestors to infectious funk music played on the streets today.

The summer programme ends with an exciting bank-holiday weekend, including Brainiac Live!  - two immersive children’s shows – Brainiac Detective Academy and Brainiac Astronaut Academy.

In addition to headline shows, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) Charity will hold a summer celebration in the Assembly Festival Garden on 20 August.

Since the Garden reopened in April over 60,000 people have visited to experience live events and enjoy the fantastic food and drink offer.

Shows such as the hugely popular Choir of Man, Friendsical and the Soweto Gospel Choir have wowed audiences so far this year and organisers expect to welcome thousands more visitors before the Garden closes on 29 August.

The pop-up venue, on the site of the former civic centre buildings, now owned by Coventry University, is a partnership between Coventry City of Culture Trust and Assembly Festival.

A great range of food and beverages are available to purchase from the bars and local street food vendors including The Boxx n Bar, Cabuccinos and Herbivora Pizza.

The Garden has been the backdrop to many significant events during its run, including the handover of UK City of Culture title from Coventry to Bradford in May and recently as a Festival Site for the Commonwealth Games.

Martin Sutherland OBE, Chief Executive of the Coventry City of Culture Trust, said: “It’s been wonderful to see Assembly Festival Garden proving so popular once again as a destination to see brilliant shows but also where the people of Coventry, Warwickshire and further afield have decided to spend time with friends, family and colleagues.

“Handing over the baton to Bradford in May means that Coventry no longer holds the title of UK City of Culture, but hosting Assembly Festival Garden again has been a great way to continue an exciting programme of events into the Summer.  We look forward to welcoming audiences and visitors for these final few weeks”.

Professor John Latham CBE, Vice-Chancellor of Coventry University, said: “We are thrilled to see such an exciting programme of events taking place at Assembly Festival Garden this summer. It’s been a huge honour to have provided our venue for the community to enjoy and we’re pleased that the space is being used to such positive effect in Coventry.

“We’re sure that with such a wonderful line up in store it will end the summer on a high.”
