Coventry Transport Museum hosts free drop-in Social Prescribing Showcase on #LinkWorkerDay2022

Thursday 19th of May 2022 08:06 AM

Up to 35 stalls will be showcasing a range of health and wellbeing activities in Coventry and Warwickshire at a free drop-in social prescribing event this week.

The National Academy for Social Prescribing (NASP) will be attending the showcase at Coventry Transport Museum to talk about what social prescribing means to people in the city and across Warwickshire on Thursday, May 19 from 10am–3pm.

Social Prescribing Link Workers are now embedded into the NHS and health care settings across the UK, prescribing sports and social activities to patients where suitable.

Event organiser Rachel Marsden, a Community Connector for Culture Coventry, said: “Social prescribing is about helping patients and clients to find ways to improve their health, wellbeing and social welfare by linking them to local services and organisations.

“The event is a great opportunity for people find out more about social prescribing and the referral process whilst platforming all the fantastic social prescribing activity in the area.

“As May 19 is also #LinkWorkerDay2022, we want to highlight and celebrate all the brilliant Social Prescribing Link Workers and their teams in the city and region.”

People from across the region are invited to learn more about arts, culture, sports, exercise, health and wellbeing activities in Coventry and Warwickshire.

Alongside stalls promoting wildlife, support, and crisis services, twelve stalls will be offering information and taster sessions including health checks, craft-making, conversation exercises, practicing gratitude, mindfulness, creative writing and more.

The event also coincides with the fourth annual UK Social Prescribing Link Worker Day 2022 (#LinkWorkerDay2022). The National Association for Social Prescribing claims as a result of this work “health care can meaningfully reduce inequalities and social injustice, deliver proactive and holistic care to people and transform healthcare for all”.
