FarGo Village is in for a big bank holiday as it prepares to host a tribute to the Notting Hill Carnival, with rum punch and reggae vibes on the menu.
Legends of Coventry’s Caribbean culture will channel the spirit of Notting Hill Carnival when they arrive in the city centre space for Reggae Bash this bank holiday weekend, bringing together major local and national artists and authentic Caribbean BBQ and cocktails.
It falls on the final bank holiday weekend of the year, the same date that the carnival is traditionally held, ensuring those missing out will still get their fix of Caribbean food, music, and culture after it was cancelled for the second year running. It is normally attended by more than one million visitors.
The festival will take over FarGo Village on Sunday, August 29, with free and ticketed activities happening from midday until late.
Inside The Box, renowned UK dancehall collective Reggae Roast, who signed to Trojan Records in 2018, will host two events including Reggae Tots and a spectacular Reggae Night powered by Coventry’s legendary Mackabee Soundsystem who are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year.
Chase N Status collaborator MC Natty Campbell, and local reggae favourite Junior Brown will also be making special guest appearances
Children of all ages are invited to hit the dancefloor beforehand at Reggae Tots, a fun-filled party featuring multi-sensory activities and a headline set from revered DJ and producer Kenny Ken.
Reggae Tots is powered by the award-winning Raver Tots festivals, which hosts the UK’s biggest rave for families, often selling out months in advance.
Those who miss out on tickets can still share in the celebrations, with reggae DJs in action all-day at Factory, and Caribbean cocktails and BBQ available at Esmie’s.
Kate Walters, organiser of FarGo Village’s Reggae Bash, said: “With Notting Hill Carnival having been cancelled once again we’re bringing all the summer reggae vibes to FarGo Village instead.
“We want to see visitors of all ages and friendship groups looking for a post-lockdown reunion making the most of the bank holiday fun, with Caribbean food and music of the highest quality providing an end to the summer that is not to be missed.
“Some early bird tickets for our ticketed events have already sold out, so we are urging anyone interested to book their place to avoid disappointment.
“There are a range of ticket options for the rest of our events to suit a variety of needs, and special discounts available to those who book in advance, but we there’s plenty to enjoy for those passing by, with free live music and the best local Caribbean food available throughout the day.”
Dinner tickets for the evening event include a main and six sides from Esmie’s and bottomless punch for the first hour. Club tickets provide entry from 9pm. The first 100 to arrive will receive a free whistle and garland necklace.
