It might have been called off for wet weather but a charity golf day is delighted it will be raining at its rescheduled event.
Organisers of the Coventry and Warwickshire Children’s Charity golf day had to postpone the event because of heavy rain earlier this summer.
But it will now take place on Thursday, October 10 when hopefully the only thing falling from the sky will be golf balls.
The event will be raising money for the NSPCC Boole House in Coventry and help vulnerable young people in the city.
Hundreds of golf balls will be dropped from a helicopter at Stoneleigh Deer Park after teams have completed their rounds, and the closest balls will win the top prizes including rounds of golf, champagne and fashionable clothing.
The group of local business people, which has been generating funds for Boole House for 23 years, has raised almost £3million in total over the years for the NSPCC since it was founded 23 years ago by CEO of Jaguar Land Rover Sir Nick Scheele and has raised an average of £10,000 through the golf events alone over the years.
The tournament is being organised by former England Rugby Union International star and owner and saviour of Coventry Rugby Club, Keith Fairbrother.
Following the helidrop, attendees will also enjoy a gala dinner with a live auction featuring great prizes to generate even more money for the good cause.
This will be the charity’s third event of the year following the Jaguar Land Rover Drive event which raised over £26,000.
Keith Fairbrother, of the Coventry and Warwickshire Business Board, said: “We’re very excited to be once again hosting the Golf Day event and to continue raising money for a wonderful cause.
“We look forward to welcoming everyone on the day so come along and see if you can win the helidrop whilst helping us raise money for the charity.”
