A leading university is helping young people in Coventry get active with an evening of innovative fun and games.
The University of Warwick will join the team at Cheylesmore Community Centre next week, taking the best parts of gaming and transforming them into real-life fun and physical challenges, while thinking about how our hobbies influence our wellbeing.
The Resonate Lates Games Night, which runs from 5pm to 8pm on Monday, October 24, invites youngsters aged 11 to 16 to get involved in activities that will put their mental and physical endurance, reflexes, teamwork skills and creativity to the test.
The free event, which is inspired by the hobbies of young people in the city, aims to promote health and wellbeing, and bring the community together through accessible fun that rewards curious minds.
The activities, which will be run largely by University of Warwick Students, include a reaction wall that will test the reflexes of visitors, VR experiences, Esports gaming on a range of consoles, and a smoothie bike challenge – complete with a leader board to track competitors’ performance. Food and drink, as well as a range of prizes, will also be provided on the night.
The event forms part of Resonate, a year-long programme of inspiring and interactive events designed to bring to life the work of the University of Warwick and its staff while engaging with local communities.
Roulla Philippou from the University of Warwick said: “It’s really exciting to have the chance to reimagine our Resonate Lates events for a younger audience, building on a successful link with the Cheylesmore Community Centre that was established as part of Resonate last year.
“The evening is all about promoting wellbeing through fun and games that compliment actual research being undertaken at the University of Warwick, and we have already received a huge amount of interest in taking part.
“I’d like to thank our students and staff – who will be helping to host activities ranging from high-energy challenges to relaxed, creative pursuits – for playing an important role in providing a link between the University and the local community in what is sure to be an extremely enjoyable evening for all.”
