College to support adults with new opportunities to upskill or change careers

Thursday 29th of June 2023 12:31 PM

Adults are being offered new opportunities to upskill or change careers with a string of new courses being launched as part of a series of adult learning events across the Midlands.

College group WCG, which has colleges across Warwickshire and Worcestershire, is hosting open evenings across all six of its colleges to highlight opportunities available to adults seeking to go back into education or training.

The part-time course offer for adults across the college group is set to expand from September 2023 – after the college received significant funding to enhance facilities for adult learners.

The Coventry & Warwickshire Adult Learning (CWAL) facilities include a new electric vehicle training facility at Warwick Trident College, construction facility at Moreton Morrell College and a simulation rail track at Moreton Morrell College.

It has also seen investment in a range of care suites to support the development of people in the health and social sector at Royal Leamington Spa College, Rugby College and Pershore College.

The open events will be hosted at Royal Leamington Spa College, Rugby College, Moreton Morrell College, Warwick Trident College, Pershore College and Evesham New College from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on Thursday, July 6.

A wide range of courses will be launched across a range of sectors on evening as part of the WCG 2023/24 Adult Learning Course Guide – with sectors ranging from marketing, professional services and the arts, to hair and beauty, computing, engineering and construction.

These include part-time and evening courses in a wide range of subjects ranging from professional qualifications for those looking to upskill or change careers, to short leisure courses for pursuing a new interest or hobby, perhaps for fun or for promoting mental wellbeing.

There will be brand new courses including electric vehicle maintenance and courses with the Prefabricated Access Suppliers' and Manufacturers' Association (PASMA).

Staff from the college group will be on hand across all six colleges to discuss fees and highlight funding options which can support adults seeking to study on Further Education courses.

Stephanie Combs, of WCG, said: “There is a national focus currently on reskilling, upskilling and ensuring that people have the right skills to support the modern economy.

“Our adult learning courses are designed with skills at their heart and the new facilities we have created across our Warwickshire and Worcestershire colleges respond to identified skills needs in those areas.

“These events will provide adult learners with information and advice about all of the courses available across the group which are starting from September 2023.

“There can sometimes be a stigma around adults going back into education, but at these events we will look to dispel those myths and highlight how returning to study at a college can have a significant impact on career prospects.”

The open days are available for prospective students who are aged 19 or over.
