An award winning apprentice has spoken about how her role helped transform her life as part of National Apprenticeship Week.
Kat Adams, who is currently studying for a City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Business Administration while working as a receptionist at Advent Communications, was recently named a Coventry and Warwickshire First YoungPro winner in the apprentice category.
After working in retail for a number of years, Kat decided to look into the possibility of starting an apprenticeship through Coventry College.
She joined PR firm Advent Communications, based at Electric Wharf, in May 2017.
She said: “When I started at Advent I had very little administration experience and I had never worked in an office before.
“After six years working in retail I had started to feel lost and unsure on what I wanted to do as a career.
“I eventually took the leap to leave the world of retail behind and decided to take a chance on an apprenticeship with Coventry College in order to take myself and my career on a new path.
“Over the last two years I have progressed not only as an apprentice but as a person as well.”
After being shortlisted for the Coventry and Warwickshire Apprentice Awards 2017, Kat took home an award at this years Coventry and Warwickshire FirstPro awards, where judges noted ‘Her great “can-do” attitude and supportive nature were evident and she’s keen to make the most of any opportunities that come her way’.
Kat also claims that the apprenticeship has helped her personally as well as professionally.
She said: “Over the last two years I have progressed not only as an apprentice but as a person as well.
“I have gained more confidence in myself and am a lot happier in both my professional and personal life.”
Coventry College offers an ever-expanding programme of more than 70 different apprenticeships, ranging from recruitment to painting and decorating, and deals with around 700 companies in the Coventry and Warwickshire area.
Gemma Knott, Assistant Principal for Business Growth at Coventry College, said: “Kat’s success is a great example of what can be achieved through an apprenticeship.
“Her dedication and commitment has opened up fantastic opportunities for her and we are delighted that her time with Advent Communications is going so well.”
