Founded in 2009, Urban & Civic became a listed property company in 2014 simultaneously raising substantial capital specifically to bring forward large scale strategic sites. Now one of the country’s leading Master Developers, our first eight strategic projects are set to deliver approaching 40,000 homes, more than 8 million sq ft of business space, at least 17 primary schools and five secondary schools across some 7,000 acres of land.
Urban&Civic’s site focus remains on securing major strategic land holdings in locations that benefit from strong transport links, robust local economies with superior growth potential. It is for these reasons Warwickshire became one of the first counties that we invested in when we acquired BT’s interest in the former Rugby Radio Station alongside Aviva Investors in 2014.
Connectivity has always been at the heart of this former long wave radio transmitter centre which is now the main mixed use urban extension for Rugby. With planning for 6,200 homes, the site will become one of the single largest new communities in Warwickshire. Named Houlton after its original transatlantic receiving station in Maine, this is a key site for the growth of the region, having strong links in all directions.
As Master Developer, our model delivers fully serviced land parcels which allow our housebuilder customers to build out quickly. We play close attention to landscaping, and the design and early provision of social infrastructure to ensure a strong sense of community is established from the outset. At Houlton, before even 100 new homes had been occupied, we have already opened our first primary school, sponsored a lively café - The Tuning Fork - and created a thriving community centre, alongside extensive tree planting, habitat creation through which run a network of attractive green pathways meaning Houlton is set to become an exemplar new community development.
Elsewhere in the region, our land promotion business, Catesby Estates continues to run its national operations from Warwick. We therefore have a material footprint in the region and actively engage with a range of local business networks and initiatives.
