Britain's Got Talent-inspired live final in Cov

Tuesday 16th of April 2024 03:44 PM

Unsung heroes from across the care sector are set to take the stage and showcase their remarkable talents during an event in Coventry.

More than 300 people are expected to attend the Care Sector’s Got Talent live final on Tuesday, April 16, with people from across the care sector preparing to step into the limelight.

Billed as ‘an extraordinary showcase of talent’ - involving care professionals, residents, family members and those who just love live performances - the final is being held at Coventry Building Society Arena for the first time in the event’s four-year history.

Solo singers, captivating choirs and dynamic dancers submitted auditions to an experienced judging panel and now only seven acts remain in the hunt for the coveted CSGT crown.

Bollywood Trio from Brampton Manor Care Home in Suffolk, Mark Arrowsmith, Regional Dementia Practitioner at Essex-based Hallmark Luxury Care Homes, and New Directions Ltd in Liverpool have all won a place in the grand final.

Sunny Singh, from Hampstead Court Care Home, Luc Valvona, from the Isle of Wight, Molly Blackburn and Joe Douglass, from Kingsway Care Home in London, are also vying for the top prize.

Modelled on the hit ITV show Britain’s Got Talent, the competition has been organised by Championing Social Care as a fantastic outlet to support the mental health of people in the sector.

Programme Chair for Talent Aneurin Brown, Managing Director of Hallmark Care Homes, said a record number of entries had been received this year.

“We've been overwhelmed by the incredible talent showcased once again,” he said. “It's heartening to see such widespread support for this event, which truly shines a spotlight on the exceptional individuals within the care sector.”

Last year's winners, Scottish singing duo Michael and Charlene, captivated audiences with their performances at various national care events throughout the year. One finalist was scouted by Britain's Got Talent following her participation in the 2023 event, highlighting the calibre of talent on show.

In 2022, it was Surrey-based carer Sarabdeep Singh who picked up the top prize thanks to the type of all-action, traditional dance routine he used to teach in India before moving to the UK.

“From childhood at the age of nine, I used to perform; it’s always been my hobby and it makes me happy,” he said.

“Social care was my first job in the UK and I would never do another job! I love supporting and working with older people.”

Jenni Ford, Director of Sales and Marketing at Coventry Building Society Arena, said: “This is a wonderful event and will be shining the spotlight on the incredible people that work across the care sector. We are proud to be hosting it for the first time.”
