Tickets release for Santa's vintage sleigh ride in Coventry

Tickets have been released early for Coventry Transport Museum’s Vintage Sleigh Ride after they sold out last Christmas.

More than 3,000 children visited the iconic sleigh in just 14 days in December 2021.

The attraction - believed to be the only vintage motorised sleigh ride in the UK - will be open on selected dates between December 3 and 23, with a dedicated SEN session on December 2.

This winter, the Vintage Sleigh Ride is set to be very different as it sees as it sees the launch of a brand-new family-friendly experience that will involve many areas of the museum, with sleigh inspired activities taking place across many of the galleries.

Festive trails and activities are some of the highlights to be expected. Further details are set to be revealed closer to the opening date.

A visit to the museum for an unforgettable ride on the iconic Vintage Sleigh will include the chance to meet Father Christmas and a gift from the elves toy shop.

Stephen Spencer, Venue Manager at Coventry Transport Museum, said: “Year-on-year, the Vintage Sleigh Ride attracts a devoted following across the West Midlands with visitors telling us it has been part of the city’s fabric for generations.

“For many parents and grandparents, it brings back happy childhood memories; while for children it’s a really magical experience.

“Last year it was great to reopen following the pandemic and we had some lovely feedback on the return of the ride. One visitor told us: ‘You can tell that a lot of love and thought went into creating this’.

“As the sleigh ride sold out completely last December, we advise getting your tickets early.

“This December you can expect something exciting and very different as part of your visit. It will include a fun, interactive sleigh adventure taking children and grown-ups on a fascinating journey of exploration and discovery around the museum.”

The Co-op Society created a number of motorised, moving scenery sleigh experiences dating back from the 1950s for their Christmas grottos in stores across Britain.

Coventry’s sleigh ride was a fixture at the Heart of England Co Op on Corporation Street for 59 years and was one of the last ones standing.

A campaign was launched to save the sleigh after the store closed in 2015 and it was rehoused at Coventry Transport Museum by Culture Coventry.

Entry is £11 per child, this includes two accompanying adults, plus museum entry for the day.
