Creative arts, workshops, and the return of a festival all about dogs are set to put springs in steps and smiles on faces at Coventry’s Creative Quarter.
FarGo Village has put health and wellbeing at the top of its summer events agenda with a wide range of activities all dedicated to giving visitors the chance to get active and be creative during the school holidays.
With August dedicated to wellbeing at FarGo Village, the creative space has launched FarGo in Motion, a celebration of active lifestyles complete with fitness classes, drop-in yoga, karate, and skate sessions, and the chance to take on your friends at table tennis and table football.
The free event, which is supported by Coventry City Council and will take place on Saturday, August 13 from 12pm-6pm, is designed for the whole family, and includes soft play for younger visitors.
FarGo Dog Fest will return on Saturday, August 27 for the ultimate day out with your favourite pet. Enter your pooch in one of the many competitions running throughout the day, enjoy great food and drink – for both humans and canines – or simply enjoy socialising with other dog lovers.
The free event will run from 10.30am until 5pm and includes a Family Dog Show in the Box hosted by Broken Souls Rescue complete with prizes for the waggiest tails, as well as an agility course, dog paw art, tombola, treats, dog bakery, doggy book stall, a doggy paddling pool and much more.
And in a bid to help emerging Coventry creatives trade ideas and connect with the FarGo team, FarGo Village has also launched a weekly Walk & Talk every Wednesday at midday.
The networking walk takes participants from FarGo Village to Charterhouse Park and back as a chance to discuss workshops, events and ideas in a relaxed, informal setting during wellbeing month.
Monta Norkuse at FarGo Village said: “We’ve put a lot of thought into this summer’s events programme as a way to have light-hearted fun with family and friends and encourage people to get active and get in touch with their creative side during the summer holidays.
“A lot of these events, including our main event FarGo in Motion, are free and offer amazing value for young families looking to keep busy during the holidays and friends looking to catch-up and have a good time.
“We’re thrilled that many of our residents are joining us in putting on a huge variety of wellbeing activities, and are delighted to be launching our Walk & Talk programme to share the FarGo buzz, enthusiasm and expertise with others looking to enter the creative industries, and hope that plenty of people come to join us.”
A range of FarGo residents are also hosting their own activities as part of wellbeing month. For FarGo’s Summer Craft Club, Wear Milo’s and Crazy Rah Art are hosting seven themed craft workshops.
The workshops, aimed at ages three and over, include Space, Pirates, Dinosaurs and Wild Animals, and are led by active creative professionals with children getting to take home their creations at the end of the day. Sessions run every Thursday at 9am, 12pm and 3pm.
Sustainable vintage clothing emporium Project Number 5 is hosting skateboarding basics sessions for ages 13 to 16 on Tuesday, August 16 and 30 from 10am to 1pm.
The sessions are free for members of the Coventry Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, and suitable for anyone stepping onto a board for the first time or casual skaters who want to boost their skills.
Arts a Riot, a collaboration between Common Ground, Let’s Animate and Art Riot Collective, has launched a unique opportunity for young people to engage in art, animation, and sensory movement, designed specifically for those with additional needs.
Sessions run every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at FarGo Village from 10am-2pm, and are also free for HAF eligible children.
