A major regional college group has appointed a new coordinator to spearhead the relaunch of its conferencing and events venues.

Angela Long will lead college group WCG’s ‘Venues’ brand which operates conference and events venues across its colleges in Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

Long, from Bishop’s Tachbrook, joins as Conference and Events Coordinator after 20 years of experience working for a membership organisation in the water industry.

During her two decades working at the Future Water Association, Long developed vast experience in the conferencing and events sector.

Long’s appointment comes as WCG reopens the doors to its conferencing and meeting spaces for the first time in two years.

Its primary venues available to host events are based at Rugby College and Warwick Trident College, however there are also spaces available at Moreton Morrell College, Royal Leamington Spa College and Pershore College.

The venues will be able to host events ranging from small meetings of eight people to large conferences of 200 delegates.

The college invests the proceeds from all bookings at its centrally-located venues back into the education of its students.

Angela Long said: “The conferencing, events and meetings facilities at WCG have a lot of potential and I’m looking forward to driving growth across this area of the business in the new role.

“My goal is to help the college group develop a successful events package and help develop our venue offer to appeal to businesses, organisations and agents that are looking to host events in the heart of the country.

“The venues across our college sites have been closed for business since the start of the pandemic. It’s been a very difficult period for both education and the conferencing industry.

“Funding continues to be a challenge across the educations sector, and by relaunching Venues we are opening a new stream of funds that can go directly back into supporting students at the college group. Every booking with us contributes directly to the education of young people and adults.

“We will be committed to working with local partners and businesses as part of our conference and events provision, and as a result making a positive impact in the local and regional economy.”

Sarah Butterfield, Director of Commercial Development at WCG, added: “We’re delighted to be welcoming Angela to our commercial team and she will be responsible for leading and driving the conference and events side of the business.

“We have been working behind the scenes since the turn of the year to be in a position to relaunch ‘Venues’ and it’s fantastic to be back open for business.”
