An historic four-star hotel in Warwickshire has been selected to play host to the region’s major tourism and leisure awards event.

Coombe Abbey Hotel, just outside Coventry, is the venue for the 2022 West Midlands Tourism Awards which celebrates businesses from across the region which bring more than £13 billion into the area’s economy.

The awards, which are organised through the West Midlands Growth Company, celebrate businesses ranging from hotels to guest houses, and from campsites to pubs. There are also awards for accessibility and inclusivity, and for resilience.

Around 200 guests will be attending the event at the elegant 121-bedroom hotel on Thursday March 31 and it is the second time the awards have been held as they were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic last year.

Ron Terry, Operations Director of No Ordinary Hospitality Management, the company which operates Coombe Abbey Hotel, said: “It is a great honour to be hosting the event which will be attended by all our peers in the hospitality and tourism industry from across the region.

“The event will be a celebration of the sector and really recognises its importance to the regional economy.

“Everyone in the sector casts a critical but friendly eye over other businesses, so while it is great to have been selected to host the event, we will have a room full of judges looking at how we perform and will be pulling out all the stops as we always do.”

Becky Frall, Head of Visitor Attraction at the West Midlands Growth Company, said: “We are delighted to be bringing the West Midlands Tourism Awards to Coventry, in its year as UK City of Culture.

“The Awards will celebrate the venues and attractions which – despite working in an often-unpredictable climate – have consistently delivered a first-class welcome for our region’s visitors.

“Some categories, including our new Resilience and Innovation Award, were particularly competitive, so we congratulate those businesses who have made it through to the finals as we come together to recognise the shining stars of our tourism scene.

“Whether it’s a trip to a heritage attraction, a meal at a leading restaurant or a relaxing overnight stay, our West Midlands’ venues offer amazing experiences for visitors, and are the setting for the creation of lifelong memories by families and friends who come to the region.”

A former 12th century Cistercian Abbey, Coombe is set within 500-acres of parkland, formal gardens and woodlands, with a mature 80-acre estate lake. Guests can also enjoy a wealth of history, character and stylish period features at this atmospheric hotel, which has a range of ornate Grand Feature bedchambers such as the Lady Craven.
