This February half term (February 19 – 26) families from across the region can visit two exhibitions in Coventry showcasing diversity in fashion and motorsport.
Child-friendly activities for all ages will be running in conjunction with the much-anticipated major exhibition Be Yourself; Everyone Else Is Already Taken - featuring the work of Coventry raised artist, stylist and activist Daniel Lismore - at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum and the interactive Women in Motorsport exhibition at Coventry Transport Museum.
Be Yourself; Everyone Else Is Already Taken will open on Friday February 18, just in time for half-term and includes 50 flamboyant life-size sculptures.
‘Wonderful Weaving’ activities for children of all ages will celebrate the weaving history of Coventry with crafts ranging from circle coasters and woven pen pots to dreamcatchers and bracelets. They will take place between 10.30am – 3.30pm every day of the week (excluding Sunday). Booking is not required for these activities.
Eight to 16-year-olds can also join an Art Masterclass on Thursday February 24 – turning an image of the city into a mixed media masterpiece. Two sessions will run from 10.30am – 12.30pm and 2pm – 4pm costing £11.37 per child, including accompanying adults. To book online in advance visit theherbert.org.
At Coventry Transport Museum the Women in Motorsport exhibition has just launched with many interactive elements for the whole family. The exhibition aims to inspire future generations with personal stories of some of the fastest women in motorsport and fascinating objects on display.
Half-term activities throughout the week will explore electronics for children of all ages where they can get hands-on with real tools and enjoy an open-ended playful environment. Sessions will run from 10.30am – 12.30pm and 2pm – 4pm and are bookable in advance.
Both venues are within easy walking distance of each other in the city.
Lisa Ford, Learning & Engagement Manager across the two venues, said: “For families looking to entertain kids of all ages this half term both of these exhibitions are perfect. Not only will they be of interest to inquisitive young minds curious about motorsports, engineering and arts, but fashion-conscious older children and teenagers into sustainable fashion and activism.”
