A lucky national newspaper reader from Norfolk has been selected to enjoy a luxury summer break with unlimited access to some historic Warwickshire attractions.

Janet Harvey, from North Walsham, is set to make the 180-mile journey to Stratford-upon-Avon to gallivant around 12 of Warwickshire’s best loved attractions including Kenilworth and Warwick Castles and the British Motor Museum.

Janet will be put up overnight in The Arden Hotel in Stratford upon Avon, complete with a romantic dinner on the hotel terrace overlooking the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and the River Avon and a complimentary breakfast after winning a competition organised by Shakespeare’s England, the Destination Management organisation (DMO) for South Warwickshire and the surrounding area.

Janet’s name was drawn at random to receive the prize after responding to a call for competition entries in The Times newspaper and has booked a late summer break in south Warwickshire.

She and a guest will have the freedom of Stratford including the Shakespeare Distillery and a host of popular attractions courtesy of a Shakespeare’s England Explorer Pass.

Janet said: “I was very surprised and absolutely thrilled to win! We are so looking forward to our late summer trip to Stratford-upon-Avon and visiting all the sites – there’s such a lot to see and do in the area.

“The photographs on The Arden Hotel's website look very attractive. I was contacted very quickly asking me to put forward a date for booking a room and was able to have my first choice. The staff were very professional and friendly.”

This latest prize concludes a month of competition giveaways organised by Shakespeare’s England, which also included a three-night stay for a family of four at Coombe Abbey Hotel with entry to its Go Ape adventure course within its historic grounds, as well as access to Warwick Castle and the British Motor Museum.

Helen Peters, Chief Executive of Shakespeare’s England, said: “Stratford is continuing to enhance its reputation as a summer destination for people across the country, not just those in the West Midlands, giving all visitors the chance to soak up hundreds of years of British history.

“The response we have had to this competition has been absolutely fantastic, and Janet has picked an excellent date, at the tail-end of summer, to come and experience our beautiful and historic region.

“I have no doubt that she will be thoroughly impressed by the range of attractions available to her, while her stay at The Arden Hotel will no doubt make for a memorable trip indeed and well worth the long trip from the east coast.”

Josefine Blomqvist, general manager at The Arden Hotel, said: “It’s been wonderful this summer to welcome so many new visitors enjoying a staycation and exploring Stratford-upon-Avon and our great area for the first time. We especially look forward to welcoming Janet.”
