Local musicians offered chance to shine at Terry Hall's Home Sessions

Calling all local musicians – this is your chance to shine as part of Terry Hall’s four-day festival HOME SESSIONS.

As part of his festival run in partnership with Coventry City of Culture Trust, curator Terry Hall is staging HOME GROWN which will offer all local musicians the opportunity to be a part of the festival line-up and perform on-stage in their home city.

Online applications need to be submitted by Saturday July 10.

Terry, the legendary frontman of The Specials, said: “I’m delighted to offer a platform to the brilliant array of talent from Coventry. I know what it’s like being in a new band getting my music out there, so I’m hoping this is a chance to shine a light of some fantastic talent in the city.

“I’d encourage unsigned and signed acts to enter. We want acts of all genres. The initiative is a highlight for me in the festival and I will work through the list of entries with fellow judges. 

"We will select a diverse range of the sounds from Coventry. I’m looking forward to hearing the latest crop of new music from the city."

Successful entrants will be chosen by six panellists – Terry Hall and his creative producer Suzanne Bisset, singer/songwriter Peter Doherty, Strap Originals producer Jai Stanley, Letitia George, presenter of BBC CWR and Sarah Morgan, director, Tin Music & Arts.

HOME SESSIONS is a four-day City of Culture festival of live music, DJ Sets, Film and Spoken Word taking place in iconic city centre venues between Thursday July 29 and Sunday August 1.

Selected local musicians will appear alongside Coventry music scene alumni and international performers including The Libertines, Pete Doherty, Roni Size, Lightning Seeds, Alabama 3, The Pop Group, Alan McGee, Daddy G and Queen Bee.

Festival organisers are calling out for all musicians and artists aged 18+ who live in a CV postcode to put themselves forward. On-stage spots for all music and spoken word genres are available, including but not limited to solo artists, bands, DJs, duos, electronic artists, choirs and poetry/rap artists.

Musicians wanting to apply must live in a CV postcode, provide their own instruments/equipment be available between Thursday July 29 and Sunday August 1; be aged 18 on the day of their performance and supply a link to least one video or audio file of their performance or track.

Those wanting to take part should complete the online application form by Saturday July 10, including at least one - no more than two - links to a video or audio for the judges to review. They can be supplied on a link for YouTube, SoundCloud or Soundmix.

The final selection of acts will made using multiple criteria, including the number of applications from each genre, availability and technical requirements.
