Free Brexit clinics now underway

Monday 8th of March 2021 10:03 AM

A series of free Brexit clinics start next week to connect West Midlands businesses to experts to answer their questions following the UK’s departure from the EU.

The West Midlands Growth Hubs are working together to organise a series of webinars to help businesses navigate the new rules.

The month-long series kicks off on Monday (March 8) with Wright Hassall’s VAT expert Kevin Hall unravelling the mysteries of VAT and Brexit from 2pm to 3.30pm, and he will also be running a similar session on Thursday, March 11 from 10am-11.30am.

Next up is Tracey Hudson, director of human resources consultancy at HR Dept, explaining how the end of the EU transition period and new rules affects businesses’ workforces, movement of people and employees working in the EU on Tuesday (March 9) between 10am and 11.30am and on Tuesday, March 23, from 2pm to 3.30pm.

The tricky subject of GDPR and data will be discussed by Andy Styles from award-winning consultancy Risk Evolves when he will help businesses understand the new rules on Wednesday (March 10) from 10am-11.30am and on Tuesday, March 23 at the same time.

The service sector will be under the spotlight on Monday, March 22 and Wednesday, March 24, when JB Consultant’s Alvaro Parra will be talking about how the end of the EU transition period and the new rules affect business travel, the recognition of professional qualifications and the ability to own, manage or direct businesses registered in the EU from 2pm-3.30pm.

The series of webinars will finish with an EU Support Sector Specialists roundtable on Thursday, March 25 when businesses will have the opportunity to air their views, raise concerns and highlight ongoing EU challenges for their company between 2pm and 3.30pm.

Craig Humphrey, managing director of the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP) Growth Hub, said these virtual clinics had been organised by the West Midlands Growth Hubs following the end of the transition period and the UK’s exit from the EU.

“In our conversations with businesses throughout the West Midlands, it became clear there was a need to connect them with key experts now that the new rules are in place,” he said.

“The hot topics are VAT, employees working in the UK and EU, the service sector, and the recognition of business and professional regulations as well as GDPR and data.

“We have lined up a number of experts from across the area who will be able to answer the questions businesses have to help owners and senior management teams plan for the future with confidence.

“It is an uncertain time with everything going on at the moment due to Covid-19 but we hope these free webinars will provide the answers businesses have been looking for regarding Brexit.”
