Kate Hughes
Director of Regional Strategy & Partnerships – University of Warwick

Kate Hughes took on the new role of Head of Strategy and Engagement from June 2019.

She joins CWLEP on secondment from her role as Director of Regional Strategy and Partnerships at the University of Warwick, in Coventry.  Working collaboratively to establish effective relationships and partnerships across the public, private and third sectors, Kate led the development of the University’s Regional Leadership Strategy and supported the delivery of major regional initiatives, strategies and policies to have positive economic, social and cultural impact across our region.

Kate has had a long and varied career in Higher Education.  At the University of Warwick she was Director of Student Support; Chief Administrative Officer, Institute of Education; Project Director, Research Governance and Ethics;  and Director of Research Support Services, managing the University's externally funded research and related knowledge transfer activity.  Kate's background in research management and administration spans almost 20 years, at the Universities of Nottingham, Leeds, Sheffield Hallam and at Henley Management College.  

Prior to that, Kate worked in the private sector, for management consultants  KPMG Peat Marwick, based in Leeds, having earlier joined the accountants, KMG Thomson McLintock after graduating with an MSc in Geochemistry from Leeds University, and BSc in Geology from Newcastle University.
