At the upcoming CW Champions event at the CBS Arena those attending will once again receive wayfinding and welcome from the EnV City Host Volunteers.
It was just over a year ago that, as part of the Commonwealth Games, EnV managed the Coventry Games Ambassadors in the city centre as the city once again welcomed the world to the city with the support of local volunteers who selflessly offered their time and efforts helping to ensure a positive experience for visitors and spectators to Coventry. Many of those volunteers were part of the Coventry City Host volunteer team in 2021 and that also included volunteers that began with EnV as a Coventry Ambassador from the London2012 Olympic Games where again the venue for the next CW Champions event was centre stage.
Volunteering offers numerous benefits and can be a deeply rewarding experience. The positive impact of volunteering is well-documented, and we are proud to share that 86% of our City Hosts reported an improvement in their wellbeing while contributing to their community. We hope to continue to encourage and support our volunteers to enhance their health and wellbeing while making a difference in the lives of others. We are also looking to work closer with local businesses and our fellow Champions with our volunteer and training services across Coventry and Warwickshire.
Research undertaken by Coventry University and University of Warwick in 2021/22 has shown that:
86% of City Hosts stated volunteering improves their wellbeing
61% of City Hosts stated volunteering increased their confidence
68% of City Hosts gained new skills or improved existing skills
80% of visitors agreed that the City Hosts improved their experience while attending or participating in events.
As well as the benefits above recently EnV volunteers were provided with a pedometer to record their steps over 80 days between Spring and Summer as they were asked to ‘Step into Summer’. We are proud to say that our volunteers have recorded over two million steps which is the equivalent of from Coventry to Tartu, Estonia!
We were recently asked to lead a Welcome Walk for the Regional Support Team of Warwick University early in July. It was a pleasure to welcome the team and show them around the cathedral quarter. Our Welcome Walks led by our volunteers, bring the city centre in Coventry to life highlighting key and interesting facts about city hot spots, not only boosting your team’s knowledge of the city but making them feel more invested in promoting it, while enhancing their well-being out in the fresh air. Investing in employee well-being can lead to increased resilience, better employee engagement, reduced sickness absence and higher performance and productivity.
