Autumn music programme launched at Drapers’ Hall in Coventry

A newly-restored historic music venue in Coventry city centre has launched its exciting Autumn programme ahead of its one-year celebration.

Drapers’ Hall successfully opened as a venue for music and music education following a £5 million restoration project led by Historic Coventry Trust in partnership with Coventry City Council last November.

A new season of intimate shows starts at the Grade II* listed building on Wednesday, September 7 at 1pm with the award-winning Da-Hee Kim performing as part of the popular lunchtime concert series, Mostly Piano.

This monthly offering of world-class piano-led performances is programmed by local pianist and promoter Julian Hellaby.

Just before heading to the Southbank Centre in London, Peter Broderick will perform his eclectic multi-instrumental set in a headline show at Drapers’ Hall on Sunday, September 25 at 7.30pm.

Jeneba Kanneh-Mason is expected to wow audiences with her immense talent at the piano on Thursday, September 29 at 7.30pm in the grand ballroom.

To celebrate Drapers’ Hall’s first birthday on Thursday, November 10 at 7pm, the superb Kansas Smitty’s house band will perform their bold and brilliant live jazz.

Hannah Pierce, General Manager and programmer at Drapers’ Hall, said it was fantastic that live music was returning this Autumn with eight shows along with the free annual Heritage Open Day event.

She said: “We took a small summer break from shows and we are delighted to be back to deliver a new live music programme.

“This set of shows is high in quality and we think has something restorative for audiences – maybe just what we need as we ease into the winter ahead.

“The lunchtime concerts at Drapers’ Hall are really special. At one hour, this is a perfect way to unwind on a lunchbreak or as part of a day out exploring the Cathedral Quarter.

“Classical music is gaining in popularity amongst younger audiences so we hope to see a broad crowd visiting our shows this Autumn. As before, we have £9 tickets available for under-14s.

“2023 will be even bigger, with some excellent surprises in store. But before then, we hope people will come along and support live music at Drapers’ Hall this Autumn.”
