Young people in Coventry are being given the opportunity to shape the future of the city centre.
Coventry Business Improvement District (BID) has launched the Young BID Board made up of 17 young people.
The aim of the group is to work alongside the BID, which is a partnership between the businesses located within the ring road and those outside it who want to be part of the project, to boost the city centre and be the voice of the young generation and discuss matters that were relevant to them.
Organisations such as Coventry University, Blue Coat School, Coventry City of Culture Trust, events guide Secret Knock and Severn Trent Water are represented on the new group, which has had its very first meeting.
At that meeting Zoe Taylor from Blue Coat School and Ben Robertson from Coventry University were named as the joint chairs of the board.
Ben Robertson, Ruby Channer, Deepti Sapkota, Clark Sonmi, Esmé Spurling, Emily Harrison, Lewis Spencer, George Winters, Ian Silver, Asha Eade-Green, Aaron Law, George Whitehouse, George Winters, Ian Silvers, Henri Pearson and Ben Pinson, make up the rest of the 17-strong team.
At its inaugural meeting the Young BID Board discussed a number issues including the Citi-wise app, retail mapping, the Christmas lights switch-on and more.
Zoe will now be supported in her new role by Coventry BID Director, Trish Willetts, who is thrilled with all of the representatives that have joined.
“I want to welcome all of our team on to the Young BID Board,” said Trish. “We could not be happier with all of the young people that have put themselves forward to help drive our work forward.
“It just shows that young people want to get involved with the city and shape its future and we are so pleased to be working with them.
“Our first meeting was extremely positive and we talked about a number points that were all relevant. It was lovely to see everyone so engaged in the discussions and putting their points across for the better of the city centre.
“Now we will all continue to work together and make a positive impact on the city centre.
“Members will be at out next Meet the BID Team, so that they can introduce themselves to businesses and see the work that the BID does for its members.”
The next Meet the BID Team event will be taking place on July 17 at Basement Browns in the city centre. The Young BID Board will be getting together once again on June 26 as part of the Professional Services Week.
