Coventry’s Food and Drink Festival has been voted by the public as one of the best in the region.

The annual event, which is run by Coventry Business Improvement District (BID), has been named the Best Warwickshire Food Festival/Event in the What’s On Readers’ Awards.

What makes the win even better for the organisers is the fact that it is voted for and chosen by people who attended the event.

The news comes as the city centre is gearing up for the next food festival, which will be returning on Friday, May 10 for an evening event and then all day on Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12.

Coventry BID Director Trish Willetts is thrilled with the win and said plans for the 2019 event are going well.

“It is an absolute honour that Coventry’s Food and Drink Festival has been named the Best Warwickshire Food Festival/Event in the What’s On Readers’ Awards,” she said.

“I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone who voted for the event, it is fantastic to know that visitors are enjoying the events that we are hosting.

“A lot of hard work goes into Coventry Food and Drink Festival and this is testament to that and I would like to say thank you to everyone that helps to organise it and works at the event to make it such a wonderful event each year.

“Plans for this year are moving forward and we have lots of exciting events, demonstrations and attractions for everyone to enjoy.

“So, make sure that May 10, 11 and 12 are marked in your diary and we will see you in Coventry city centre for another great time.”

The special guests for this year’s Coventry Food and Drink Festival have already been confirmed as celebrated chefs Glynn Purnell and Rosemary Shrager.

A number of live demonstrations will be taking place across the weekend for visitors to pick up handy hints and tips. An array of stalls will also be filling Broadgate, selling tasty treats for visitors to indulge in during the weekend.

The festival will be an introduction to Glynn Purnell, who holds a Michelin star at his eponymous restaurant in Birmingham, who has just announced he is is planning to open his third eatery at the Charterhouse in Coventry.

Live entertainment will be going ahead, but that is not all, as Vélo Birmingham & Midlands will also be taking place on May 12 and the riders will be coming through Coventry, so there will be plenty going on for everyone to enjoy and there will be additional Street Food with Digbeth Dining Club in the Cathedral Ruins on Sunday.

Vélo Birmingham & Midlands is a closed road route of 100 miles or 42 miles, that will take 17,000 riders on an unforgettable journey through the West Midlands, including two major city centres.

Tony Walsh from RR events, which is working with Coventry BID on this year’s festival, said: “We are proud to be working with Coventry BID on this year’s events. The pressure is on for us to help deliver a bigger and better event than last year, but we are sure with our experience and expertise that we can do this.”
