We are showing the rest of the UK what a happy, multicultural city we have, with all Coventry's many diverse communities working together side by side to create a happy, welcoming home for all, celebrating our cultural diversity with music, dance, food and sports from the parts of the Commonwealth where our people come from. This will bean amazing family event where people from all generations will share fun and interact with cultural performers, British Army; Royal Air Force, Royal Navy; Police, Fire Services, NHS staff, Canal & River Trust and many other faith and community organisations. The Canal Basin has been a part of our city since the 18th century, a hidden gem that has been lying undiscovered in the heart of Coventry. We have worked with Coventry City Council and Canal& River Trust to bring it back into public use and to give it a new life as a tourist attraction and community venue. The main attraction this year will be inauguration of our major and prestigious environmental project "Coventry Canal Basin Peace Garden'' created with the funding provided by the Severn Trent Community Fund. First time in the history of Royal Navy; a female senior officer has been appointed as Rear Admiral of Royal Navy: We are proud to announce that Rear Admiral J H Terry OBE will be inaugurating "Coventry Canal Basin Peace Garden'' and dedicate this amazing Environmental project to the service of People of Coventry.
