One of our latest Members, The Albany Theatre Trust is a professionally managed, volunteer-run community theatre in Coventry. Formerly known as The Butts or College Theatre (part of the original Coventry Technical College) the Albany opened in 2013 and has built a strong reputation for brilliant professional entertainment coupled with deep engagement with the many communities in the City and beyond. The Albany donated over 700 tickets for their Christmas shows to food bank users, refugees and other families facing financial challenges, and the volunteers who support them, and are in the middle of an exciting development project to provide new facilities.

Employing only 12 fte professional staff, the theatre relies on a small army of over 100 dedicated volunteers to manage day-to-day operations. Since 2016, 24 apprentices and paid interns have started their careers in the arts at The Albany. In September 2023, the Albany launches a BTEC in Technical Theatre, recruiting particularly from BAME and other groups that are under-represented in the industry. Many of their volunteers have returned to work or obtained their first employment having built their confidence and skills in the Albany’s warm community. For some, the life-changing experience has aided recovery from mental health challenges. The Albany has been nominated for a King’s Award for Voluntary Service.

They are hosting a Business Breakfast event on Friday June 16th 2023 to share their story and we invite you to celebrate with them. After breakfast and networking, they will present their plans for the new development followed by the chance for a tour of the site, including backstage, and hard-hat tours to see the progress of the development up close.

The Albany is also offering the chance for Members to get involved through discounted sponsorship schemes – a novel and interesting way of demonstrating Corporate and Social Responsibility whilst demonstrating public support for their community success story.

The event is free, but ticketed so that they can plan catering. You can reserve your place online - https://www.albanytheatre.co.uk/shows/new-space-breakfast-celebration/
